Telgar Weyr Bowl - Leona - June 6th, 2006

Telgar Weyr - Center of the Bowl

A nearly circular bowl, surrounded on all sides with the sheer soaring cliff walls of the now dormant volcano that once formed Telgar. Hard packed earth, leveled to nearly flat by the passage of feet, both human and dragon with the odd intrusion of rock that is sheared off to keep the area safe to traverse. Two openings can be seen from this area, one the gigantic oval teardrop shape that leads on into the hatching grounds and nearly opposite the much smaller doorway that leads into the communal living areas for the weyr.

A young woman with strawberry-blonde hair emerges from the living caverns with an apron on and looking a bit like she needs a rest as she yawns, probably after an early morning in the kitchens. She stretches a bit and looks around.

Leona is busy negotiating with a hunter over some hides, at the moment. The tanner woman seems to be getting the better deal of it, by the looks of the hunter's expression. Finally, they make a deal, Marks change hands and Leona says, "You'll get the rest on delivery." before the hunter leaves.

Ethne notices a few others in the bowl and waves as she wipes the floor off her hands and dusts it off her clothes as she says just loud enough. "Good morning."

Leona glances over at Ethne now, and nods. "Good morning." she replies, moving over toward the living caverns, and Ethne. "I don't believe we've met yet?" she says, raising an eyebrow in curiousity. "Leona." she says simply, introducing herself.

Ethne smiles as she says softly introducing herself. "Ethne, Journeywoman Baker, here helping out Tarkan in settling into his new posting and helping teach some apprentices." She offers her hand as she says quietly. "Nice to meet you."

Leona accepts Ethne's hand, shaking it firmly, and nods. "Journeyman Tanner, on my first posting." she explains. She must have joined the craft later than most, if she's just made journeyman. "I grew up here." she adds randomly.

Ethne nods quietly with a smile. "Ah, how are you enjoying it? I grew up at Big Lagoon Hold. Not really used to the Weyrs yet. Spend much of the time between here and Xanadu lately."

Leona shrugs absently. "Can't complain. I've spent the last dozen turns following my Harper mate along to all of his postings, about time he returned the favour." she adds, with a grin. "I prefer Weyr life, personally. Some of the people we met in Holds, well, they didn't look too kindly on us not being married." she is quick to add, "But not everyone. Just a few people, really…"

Ethne nods with a smile as she replies. "I've never really stayed much time at Weyrs to get a full grasp of what it's like. I don't mind Hold life but I've been travelling more. My father's a rider, he's over at Ierne Weyrhold, he travels back and forth to be with my mother and me, my brother still lives at the hold with his family and my sister recently moved with her family to Xanadu Weyr. I'm not married, not sure if it's for me or not, haven't really met anyone in a while that I've liked I guess."

Leona chuckles, and says "I suppose I was lucky. I met Karell when I was fifteen. I had no idea whether we'd last, but I figured I might as well give it a shot, and at least see a bit of Pern. That was over ten turns ago. Then, three turns ago, we had a daughter. We had to foster her to my parents though, because we were still travelling a lot at the time." she shrugs. "My parents are both riders here at Telgar. So's my older brother. My sisters both live here too, but my younger brother has joined a trader caravan."

Ethne nods quietly with a smile as she responds. "Sounds like you have had an interesting travelling like that though."

Leona shrugs, then says, "Well, I certainly learned a few things along the way. I'm not quite ready to settle down yet, though. It all depends on how I feel at the end of my posting." she says, with another shrug.

Ethne nods as she says softly. "I can imagine. I wish you the best of luck, I think my next posting will be at Xanadu Weyr."

Leona nods slowly, then frowns. "You know, I don't think I've actually been to Xanadu yet. Karell mostly got sent to Holds, really. A couple of northern Weyrs, but none of the southern ones yet." she shrugs at that.

Ethne says softly as she looks around for a moment. "Master Denna has requested that I consider a posting at Xanadu Weyr, I'll have to think on it."

Leona nods. "Well, it's always good to listen to the Masters." she says, simply. "Although it never really hurts to have a bit of fun." she grins, and then adds "Not that the two are always mutually exclusive."

Ethne smiles as she laughs. "Yes very true. I have to start working on my senior journeyman project soon." She says. "So what's your specialty in tanning?"

Leona grins, a slightly predatory grin. "I tan the hides." she says, with pride. "I got a real kick out of seeing the girly apprentices faint during the lesson on tanning. Obviously, I just had to choose that as my speciality." she grins, again with the scary grin.

Ethne nods with a smile as she says. "Yeah that would have been amusing in the least. I choose to be a baker and specialize in making different types of breads."

Leona nods, "Sounds interesting." she says, simply. "My mate Karell is a harper, he specialised in singing and dancing." she wrinkles up her nose at that. Karell's true speciality is probably more along the lines of 'Performance' than 'singing and dancing'. "But, we'd never have met if he hadn't been posted here as a harper, so it's not all bad."

Ethne nods with a smile as she says. "Well interesting to see a male be interested in that sort of stuff I suppose." She says quietly. "Have you met that Roroc guy?"

Leona snorts at the mention of Roroc's name, and looks around to see if he's around. "Yes, I most certainly have." she says, in a frosty tone. Oh dear, she doesn't seem too fond of this Roroc fellow.
